An Avondale woman and her daughter were kidnapped from their home Thursday night or Friday morning, according to police officials.

They said 20-year-old Liliana Iboa and her toddler daughter were reported missing by Iboa's husband at about 10 p.m. Friday.

Benito Cervantes Mena, 26, told police he was out of town when he received a call earlier Friday from an unidentified man who said he had his wife and 3-year-old daughter.

The caller demanded money for their release, according to police.

When Mena returned home, he reportedly found the house had been broken into and burglarized.

He told police he didn't call earlier because he fireared his family would be hurt.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information to call the Avondale Police Department at 623-333-7001.

An Avondale woman and her daughter were kidnapped from their home near 129th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard Thursday night or Friday morning, according to police officials.

They say 20-year-old Liliana Iboa and her toddler daughter were reported missing by Iboa's husband at about 10 p.m. Friday.

Benito Cervantes Mena, 26, told police he was out of town when he received a call earlier Friday from an unidentified man who said he had his wife and 3-year-old daughter Karen.

The caller demanded money for their release, according to police.

When Mena returned home, he reportedly found the house had been broken into and burglarized.

He told police he didn't call earlier because he feared his family would be hurt.

Neighbors say the family is new to the neighborhood.

Police say they were specifically targeted. They would not specify the dollar amount the kidnappers were demanding except to say that it was in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information to call the Avondale Police Department at 623-333-7001.

Something inky about this report. If it was my spouse, I'd have called LE immediately and demanded they go check on my family's welfare... Called my spouse too.

Police are searching for a missing mother and 3-year-old daughter who they say may have been kidnapped from their Avondale home.

Liliana Beatrice Iboa, 20, and Karen Bianay Cervantes, 3, were reported missing Friday night by Iboa's husband, Benito Cervantes Mena, 26.

Mena told police he was out of town when an unidentified man called him Friday morning, saying he had his wife and daughter.

The caller demanded money in return for their release.

Police said Mena returned home in the 12900 block of West Alvarado to find his house had been broken into and robbed.

Mena told police that he did not report the incident sooner because he worried his family would be harmed.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Avondale Police Department at (623) 333-7001.

I wonder about the time lapse between the call and when Mena left work to go home and see what happened. I'm sure LE will try to trace the call and hopefully, if this is a true case of kidnapping, find the kidnapper. Maybe the call will have been made on his cell phone so LE can track pings.

Also wonder about other witnesses to the burglary.
