Palo Pinto TX

December 26, 2006

The man’s skeletal remains were found on Dec. 26, 2006, on private property near North Farm-to-Market Road 4, just north of the town of Palo Pinto in North Central Texas. The Rangers believe the man’s time of death was between 1998 and 2005.  The forensic drawings are not an exact likeness, but are a good general depiction of how the man may have looked in life. He is believed to be Hispanic, about 45 to 65 years old, and 5 feet 1 inch to 5 feet 4 inches tall. He also had a poorly healed fracture to his right cheekbone and a possibly crooked or asymmetrical nose.

gainey-laura.jpgThe Picton Castle, 45 passenger, 180 foot vessel, left on December 5, 2006 headed south to the Eastern Caribbean on a three week voyage. The Picton Castle is a Tall Ship, offering passengers to become crew in training for $2100 and up. For Laura Gainey, this was her second such cruise. She was experienced, and had completed many safety drills. That experience didn’t help her when the ship entered into high seas as it headed south from Lunenburg Harbour, Nova Scotia. Wind speeds had reached up to 75 kilometres per hour and swells were in the seven-metre range, when a rouge waved slammed the back of the ship, and tossed her overboard. Orange County, CA ~ The 56-year-old has been  missing since 12/05/06.  He hiked each day in a wilderness area of Whitting Ranch and was particularly fond of going off trail to admire reptiles. His wallet, passport, cell phone and keys were in his home. He did not seem depressed. His family and friends describe him as not the type to “start over in life” in a manner that imposed burdens on family and friends or other searchers. He lived a California Casual lifestyle of a fairly wealthy man who went to car rallies and coffee shops.
